The drum-form garden seat was a fixture of the Qing dynasty garden, used as a multipurpose space to rest one's feet or serve tea. This contemporary garden stool is made of ceramic with convex sides patterned with billowing clouds and enveloped in a turquoise glaze finish. The glassy, blue-green glaze drips down the sides with irregular movement, lingering beautifully within the contours of the low relief cloud pattern. The top of the seat is perforated with a coin motif, an ancient symbol of good fortune and prosperity. Ideal indoors or out, this seat would be a lovely addition to any garden, terrace, or sunroom.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
