Originally used for fermenting rice or sorghum into vinegar, this monumental early 20th century vessel is coated inside and out with a dark glaze. The inky glaze sheets and pools over the jar's textured sides, lingering beautifully on every imperfection. Subtle ridges at the base suggest that the jar was fashioned by coiling flattened ropes of clay into the desired shape. Featuring an unglazed rim and a broad lid, this large urn exemplifies the timeless appeal of handcrafted pottery and is a wonderful addition to the home as a grand centerpiece vessel.
