Basket making is an ancient and humble craft, but in the hands of a skilled weaver a simple willow basket can become a truly beautiful work of art. These lidded tabletop baskets were made in China long ago, and the artisan’s mastery is evident: the strong, flexible willow strips are skillfully intertwined into a rhythmic pattern. Any remaining gaps were then filled with lacquer to create a watertight seal and accentuate the woven pattern. The baskets have worn beautifully with time, but remain in remarkable condition - a testament to its craftsmanship. We love this set of woven baskets simply displayed as decorative objects.
