In order to meet an ever-growing demand in Europe and American during the beginning of the 20th-century, foreign manufacturers were lured to China to produce rugs. Among the most famous were Nichols “Super Rugs” made in Tientsin. Made of machine-spun wool yarns, the carpets were shinier and denser than traditional Chinese rugs. This Nichols rug from 1930 displays the lustrous appearance, nuanced color and keen detail achieved by the Nichols method of weaving, which tightly packed high-grade wool yarn into a luxuriously plush pile. With its magenta and sage field littered with flowers, this carpet is a luxe floor covering that’s packed with history.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
