Japanese obi began as humble silk sashes meant to gather kimonos at lengths appropriate to the wearer's stature. Over the centuries they took on more and more elaborate roles, frequently ending up more desirable than the kimonos they accompanied. The vibrant colors and precise needlework inspired one of our local artisans to repurpose a 19th-century obi sash as the decorative field for this pair of throw pillows. The result is an eye-catching piece of textile art for the modern home.
