Decorated with oxblood-red lacquer and its original gold paint, this ornate window panel is a beautiful example of traditional Chinese latticework. Set into a wall or door, lattice windows such as this allowed light and air into a room while maintaining privacy.

This lattice panel dates to the late 19th century and features a central carving of a lantern strung with hanging tassels and topped by peony blossoms. The lantern is flanked by four round medallions, each bearing a simple floral motif. A rectangular border encloses the carvings, appearing as if held in place by small birds in each corner. Darkened by a rich patina that only time can achieve, this gorgeous lattice looks fantastic in modern interiors as a sculptural wall hanging.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
