Stone lions have been used by the Chinese as guardians against evil elements since the Han Dynasty. Through different dynasties, the shape, form and decorative motives change and evolve from abstract to realistic to stylistic, incorporating symbolism and human expression to convey different emotions. The flowing ribbons found in the mouth of this pair represent that the pair has been domesticated. The flapping ears show alertness and energy, while the downward ears show a more relaxed and secure stature. The pair still retains some of the old pigments on the back. The shape and form of the base are of the Northern Chinese tradition.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
