Over four hundred years ago, these rare stone finials once sat high on the roof of a late Ming-dynasty building. Hand-carved in Shanxi province, they offer a rare glimpse of a bygone era, as many historic buildings in China have been torn down to make way for new construction. Each finial is carved to resemble a bountiful pile of ripe fruit - one with peaches, symbols of immortality, and one with persimmons, symbols of luck and good fortune. Whether flanking a doorway or tucked within the lush greenery of a mature garden, these stone sculptures bring a bit of magic and wonder to any space.
