This statue depicts Guanyin: a bodhisattva known for her compassion. It is unusual to see Guanyin so beautifully cast in iron from the Ming period. The metal is wonderfully defined. Her hair is piled high on her head in a chignon, which has been secured by a tiara, and on her face is a serene expression. The bespoke mount is carved to receive the base of the figure gracefully.
