A symbol of compassion and wisdom, Guan Yin is a bodhisattva venerated by Buddhists and Taoists alike. This exquisite porcelain sculpture from around 1900 depicts the serene-faced goddess holding lotus plants, symbols of purity and divinity, in her characteristic flowing white robes. Crafted with keen attention to detail and a sense of ethereal lightness, the figure is made of a clay known as blanc de chine. The clay’s low iron content keep its white color after firing, often applied with a white glaze to further enhance its pristine appearance.
