A distinguished member of the Qing dynasty literati would have used this 19th century sculptural burled rootwood container to hold his scrolls. Its organic form reflects a cultivated taste for nature's peculiar effects and humble associations that was widespread amongst a cultured group of 18th-19th century Chinese artists and literati. The container is carved out of a wood burl, highly valued by collectors and woodworkers for its unique shape and extraordinary patterning. Its worn and warmly patinated surface speaks to its age and calls to be touched.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
