Celadon Jade Bi Disc

Connoisseurs have cherished jades, like this one, for thousands of years, attracted by their rich heritage, beauty, and rarity. Bi discs have been found in the tombs, thousands of years old, of Chinese emperors and aristocrats. Jade was valued for its supposed mystical properties, and was believed to preserve the body and soul. Celadon stones were among the most sought after; Chinese artisans tried to duplicate this natural color in their green glazed ceramics (also called celadon). Shaping this hard stone takes considerable skill and patience.
