Jade Bi Disc

This mottled green and white disc is particularly striking in its custom mount. Shaping this hard stone takes considerable skill. Celadon stones, like this one, were particularly valuable in ancient China; artisans even tried to duplicate this natural color in their green glazed ceramics (also called celadon). An artisan imbues the jade with this soft, satiny glow by patiently rubbing the surface with sand, a subtle beauty completely different from the polished gloss of machine-finished jades. Custom steel mount is 5" between base and disc.
