This small hand-formed pewter box, which was likely used as an offering on an altar table, takes the shape of a delicately rendered and petite pumpkin. The abundance of seeds within a pumpkin symbolize the wish for many children. Pewter was frequently used for decorative arts in Canton at the turn of the 19th century.
