This 19th-century tray has a simple rectangular form with low sides and rounded corners. A black lacquer finish cloaks the exterior and offers the perfect canvas for a quiet winter landscape painting. Brushed atop a printed backdrop, the wintery scene depicts a small cabin tucked within a snowy riverbank and a towering pagoda in the distance. Tall leafless trees bisect the melancholy setting, backed by grey skies.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.

Tray has minor restorations to peeling of lacquer at the edges.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
