This rustic lacquered box dates to the early 20th century and was likely used to store textiles, clothes, and other household items. The sides are set within a simple rectangular frame and comprised of thin strips of bamboo woven into a basic twill pattern. The box is coated inside and out with layers of dark black lacquer, now well-worn from years of use.
