Tightly woven of natural reeds, this neat basket likely contained offerings of food, money and fruits presented as part of ritual ancestor worship on a family altar. The basket is colored by a red-brown lacquer and contrasting black lacquer trim. A simple painting of a bird on a branch is painted on the interior. Over the course of the past century, the earthen red has developed fantastic character that only comes with authentic, time-honored use. Today it elevates fruit in the kitchen or provides a storied home for sundry objects.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
