This unique baluster or temple jar was hand formed and painted with a lotus motif in the Zhejiang region of China during the early 20th century. These jars were often used to store and transport spices, tea, medicinal herbs and even sweetmeats during Chinese New Year. It was customary for the recipient to return the jar filled with different delicacies. We were thrilled to find a collection of hand formed and painted indigo jars from the early 1900's that included this vessel.
