This baluster or temple jar was formed and hand painted with a dragon in the early 20th century in the Zhejiang region of China. Dragons are the imperial emblem of the emperors symbolizing strength, goodness and protection. These vessels were often used as storage for spices, tea and even medicinal herbs.
