When we first saw these vases we assumed them to be traditional early 20th century porcelains. On further investigation we found them to be rough hewn ceramics that an inspired soul tested their own methods on. They are painted with a "sang-de-beouf" field with phoenix and peony imagery on top. The result is a unique pair of jars that reference thousands of years of Chinese ceramic mastery. The combination of phoenix and peonies is a blessing of virtue, peace and benevolence. The combination of materials, techniques, and imagery are an absolutely unique folk art find in our 20 years of collecting.
