Carved from a single block of granite, this stone vessel is an early 19th century mortar once used in a Chinese kitchen to grind spices, herbs, and other condiments. The small mortar boasts a range of textures - from jagged stone at the base to orderly chisel marks at the rim to a smooth, concave interior, well worn from years of use. Today, the rustic stone mortar layers into modern interiors as a tabletop planter, salt cellar or sculptural object.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
