This pair of 19th-century porcelain vases is an exquisite example of blue-and-white pottery. Each vase is expertly formed with thin walls, gently widening to a flared lip, flanked by two molded scroll handles. Painted with richly saturated cobalt pigments, each vase depicts a regal pheasant surrounded by peonies, a motif bestowing blessings of beauty and good fortune. The dark washes of blue beautifully contrast the creamy white background with striking design and a luxurious finish.
