Introduced to Europe in the fourteenth century, Chinese porcelains were regarded items of luxury—and today, blue and white porcelain, like this jar, are among the most sought after by connoisseurs. These floral jars were made in Southern China over a century ago. The blue pigment of the flowers and scroll work are cobalt oxide that was hand painted by artisans.
