Chinese blue and white ceramics have inspired ceramists worldwide since cobalt was first introduced to China from the Middle East thousands of years ago. This tall porcelain jar was intended to contain a collection of scroll paintings. It is hand-painted with flowers representing the four seasonsplum blossoms for winter, peonies for spring, lotus for summer, and chrysanthemums for autumn—collectively symbolizing a bounty of blessings.
