With its classic form, this round melon jar is the perfect canvas for its rich, peach blossom glaze. For many Qing-dynasty elite, peach blossom was a preferred finish to fine ceramics for its resemblance to sweet, ripened fruit. The copper-based glaze can be unpredictable when firing, resulting in wonderful imperfections. This jar's lush coat of wine-red glaze is speckled with flecks of dark red and contrasted by the unglazed edges along the base and lip. The jar's carved wooden lid has been stained a deep burgundy to bring out the wood grain and better match the peach blossom glaze.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
