In the early 20th century, Chinese ceramists experimented with a rainbow of vibrant, colorful glazes that brought new energy and innovation to time-honored traditional techniques. This fine porcelain jar was shaped in the ancient baluster form and decorated with a floral scene painted in the period’s expressive, freeform style and "famille rose" coloration. Resplendent with lush florals and brilliant color, the jar is patterned with chirping songbirds and blossoming peonies, symbols of love and affection. Likely gifted as part of a wedding dowry, the jar is painted with characters blessing the couple with happiness, wealth, and status until old age.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
