This finely made pewter tea canister was made during the early 1900s in Guangdong, China, which was considered by many scholars to be the birthplace of tea. The beverage quickly became popular across much of Asia, but didn’t catch on globally until the 17th century. Eventually teacups, pots, and canisters, like this one, lined every shelf in Europe.
