This 19th century broad stroke calligraphy brush has a tree branch handle that was carved by an artisan to enhance the look of the "bark". In China during the Qing Dynasty, when this unique brush was made, a true scholar was required to be a fine calligrapher. Young men who were taking examinations were not only graded on their responses to the test’s questions, but on their skills in wielding a calligraphy brush like this one.

“I am particularly fond of PAGODA RED as we have known the family for so long. Betsy is a professional in every way and her intelligent taste comes from a long line of family knowledge in the arts. She and her team are the very best to work with and we find treasures with every visit!”
