Due to their many seeds, gourds are traditionally perceived as auspicious symbols of good fortune and perpetuity. When dried, gourds became durable natural vessels used as ladles, flasks, or even musical instruments. This dried gourd tool is perforated with holes for use as a strainer, used to dispense thin dough into boiling water to make fresh noodles. Set on a custom steel mount, the strainer displays a graphic sculptural form and organic warmth of texture.
