Blades of stone have been part of Chinese culture since Neolithic times. Carved from jade, a highly appreciated and understated material thought to embody great virtue, blades evolved from functional weapons into decorative objects, often carved in miniature. Known as kuei, these jade blades were bestowed upon men of rank by the Emperor and touted as symbols of their authority. The refined form and rich patterning of this contemporary jade specimen makes it a fantastic sculptural object, elevated by a custom steel mount.
