This early 20th century blue and white porcelain container is referred to as a jubako in Japan. The painted flowers represent the four seasons. Jubako were traditionally used while celebrating the New Year. Each layer contained traditional holiday foods that have special meanings and wishes such as: good health, happiness, fertility, wealth, and long life. It lives on as a perfect container for keepsakes and jewelry today.
