This large, tapered ginger jar continues a centuries-old tradition of Chinese blue-and-white porcelain ware. Painted with expressive brushwork, the jar is festooned with trailing vines and flower blossoms, densely patterned around large chrysanthemum medallions. Common motifs in Chinese art, chrysanthemums are emblems of autumn and symbols of longevity and happiness.

The jar's high shoulders are topped with faux handles shaped as mythical fu dogs, and a seated fu dog takes the place of a knob handle on the lid. Finished with a crackled clear glaze, this lidded jar has a timeless design that brightens up any space.
