According to the Chinese ceramic tradition, every vessel, no matter how humble its function, exhibits harmonious form and a mastery of glazing techniques. This lowly chamber pot has a remarkably expressive design, from the wide spout to the slanted curve of the handle. Glazed a rich shade of celadon, the colors pool blue in the creases and coat the contours in luminous jade. Paying respect to the clay itself, the craftsman of this exceptional jar left a wide portion of the base unglazed.
