The basic form of this three-tiered rosewood box with handle has remained unchanged for a thousand years. The lack of formal dining rooms in traditional China prompted people to use stacked boxes to carry food from a remote kitchen to the room where it would be eaten. This hardwood example with fine beading and subtle details would have been the favorite choice for a member of the 19th-century elite. The lid is held in place by a long brass rod that extends through the two side supports.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
