An artisan from the Fujian region of China made this pair of lacquered stools over two centuries ago. They exemplify the masterful carpentry and finishwork that has made Chinese furniture distinctive; the square legs end in artfully carved horse hoof feet, the tops maintain the original renderings of blossoming flowers painted by hand and the lacquer maintains its rich, deep color.
