The Zulu people of South Africa create ceramic works of unrivaled balance and weightlessness. This is particularly apparent in the standardized form of the ukhamba, a communal vessel used for drinking sorghum beer. Carrying into the present notions of mutuality and sociability, the beer vessel is passed from person to person, emphasizing the interconnectedness of humanity. This rimless ukhamba vessel is exquisitely sculpted with a graceful swell, marked by an incised geometric pattern to add welcome asymmetry to its balanced form.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
