This hand-painted carpet design provides a glimpse at the artistic process behind the Art Deco rugs produced in China in the 1920s and ‘30s. Half sketch, half painting, the composition symmetrically arranges bamboo boughs on an open field, keeping with the refined minimalism that captivated consumers in China and abroad. The carpet design was developed for H.C. Augustesen, one of many foreign manufacturers lured to Tientsin, China to produce rugs for clamoring markets in Europe and America.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
