A pillow book was meant to teach a young bride about the art of lovemaking. Small in size, the accordion-folded book could be kept discreetly close at hand, stashed under couple’s pillows. Erotic art in China goes back centuries, but much of it was destroyed during the Maoist era, making this book from around 1900 quite rare. A simple mat and frame form the perfect backdrop for the book's 10 expressively drawn and detailed illustrations.
