"Fence in Pond" Limited Edition C Print by Douglas Reid Fogelson

Part of “China: An Outside Perspective,” an exhibition previously presented at PAGODA RED, this photograph by Chicago artist Doug Fogelson depicts the unique characteristics of the Chinese landscape. Struck by how different and varied the landscape appeared to him on his first trip to China, Fogelson acknowledged his preconceptions, but developed a zen approach to his subject matter and focused on the contrasts offered by the old and new built environments witnessed on his travels. This serene image situates a pond of a transitioning landscape against a vista of fog-shrouded rock formations known as the mystical Karst Mountains of Guilin that have been celebrated for centuries in traditional Chinese painting.
