Upon discovering a weathered steel drum that had been warped to resemble the sleeve of a garment, artist Gordon Chandler was inspired to embark on a series of kimono sculptures formed from found metal scraps. With an eye to the aesthetic possibilities of this humble material, Chandler invests reclaimed steel with sculptural fluidity and a wry sense of form.

In this wall-mounted sculpture entitled "Corrugated Wrap," a salvaged sheet of corrugated steel takes on the shape of a short-sleeved jacket or open-front wrap. With just a few well-placed cuts and folds, the found metal appears as draped fabric, textured with pleated folds and rusted wear. The artist's name and date of creation have been stamped onto a small steel garment label secured to the collar.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
