Upon discovering a weathered steel drum that had been warped to resemble the sleeve of a garment, artist Gordon Chandler was inspired to embark on a series of kimono sculptures formed from found metal scraps. With an eye to the aesthetic possibilities of this humble material, Chandler invests reclaimed steel with sculptural fluidity and a wry sense of form.

Salvaged steel scraps take on the shape of a short-sleeved jacket in this large, wall-mounted sculpture entitled "Retro Shirt." The found metal is cut and shaped to resemble draped fabric with rigid, starched sleeves and a gently curving collar. The shirt has a coated finish in light teal and crème white, patterned with perforations and rusted texture. The artist's name and date of creation have been cut into a small steel garment label secured to the collar.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
