Erotically themed pillow books were often given to newlyweds in China as "how-to" manuals. Miniature in size, the books could be kept discreetly close at hand, stashed under couple’s pillows. Erotic art in China goes back centuries, but much of it was destroyed during the Maoist era, making this beautifully rendered print from the 1920s quite rare. The simple mat and frame form the perfect backdrop for the vibrant colors and detailed illustration.
