"D'Arcy" Kite by Michael Thompson

Channeling Abstract Expressionism and the chic insouciance of street fashion, Chicago artist Michael Thompson creates a minimalist yet rhythmically charged composition in “D’Arcy.” An addition to his ongoing Kite series, the painting comprises a canvas of stretched muslin over a support of bamboo. According to Thompson, the kite format is more accessible and whimsical than a traditional canvas. Sculptural in nature and inherently informal, his kites are just as at home hanging from the ceiling as being displayed on a wall.

Thompson has earned an international reputation for his kite works, an engrossing project initiated by the artist more than a decade ago.
