Extracting images, logos and slogans from popular culture, Almudena Rodriguez rearranges these disparate signs on hand-sewn fabrics in an attempt to map out a single vision determined not by original context but through aesthetic thought. Part of a series reinterpreting the work of 17th-century Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi, "Xochipilli" explores the history of pictorial language in an attempt to link modernity to tradition.

Acrylic, aniline, ink, and embroidery on amate paper. Framed.
