This early 20th century bookcase once stood in a Qing-dynasty scholars' studio, piled high with books and painted scrolls. Considered a status symbol, books were given pride of place on impressive shelves such as this, alongside precious objects and works of art. Constructed with clean lines and open sides, this tall bookcase has a minimalist design, decorated only by beaded edges, oblong cutouts, and humpback stretchers at the base. Darkened to a black-brown finish, the timeless shelf has modern appeal and holds its own in a contemporary office or living room.

“I am particularly fond of PAGODA RED as we have known the family for so long. Betsy is a professional in every way and her intelligent taste comes from a long line of family knowledge in the arts. She and her team are the very best to work with and we find treasures with every visit!”
