This unusually configured 19th century collector's cabinet from Northern China, has nine compartments—each finely carved with a unique decorative frame. Originally, these compartments likely contained a collection of porcelain, bronze, or scholars' objects. The apron of the cabinet was ingeniously designed to go up and down, so that it can appear to be flush to the floor or with legs depending upon the installation.
