The configuration of this late-19th/early-20th century coffer is typical of low cabinets from Tianjin, a port city in Northern China. This coffer has a strong presence, hoof feet and original hand made brass hardware, which from this region, was often designed in a square shape. This piece features unusual flush brass pulls. The original lacquer finish has developed wonderful character over the last century. Cabinets like this provided storage for a typical home in Tianjin.
