The sleek design of this 19th century three drawer table is generally attributed to the minimal style of the Ming period (1368-1644). It was handcrafted in China’s Henan province out of local elm wood. The quality of the workmanship is evident by its appropriate proportions, elegant hand made brass hardware, and delicately carved apron. A concealed space was designed for safe storage beneath the three drawers. Traditionally, larger cabinets such as this were offered by a bride's family as part of her dowry, to be used in her sleeping quarters.
