Beautiful in its austerity, this grand cabinet from China’s Shanxi province dates from the middle of the 19th century. Featuring two sets of bi-fold doors, the cabinet is elegantly carved with subtly detailed panels that are designed as "floating panels" which move within their frames so that the solid elm wood will not crack. Quiet hand wrought brass hardware balances the cabinets impressive stature and richly lacquered wood.
