This one-of-a-kind basket was made over one hundred fifty years ago in the Zhejiang region of China. The reeds are woven into a beautiful geometric pattern and layers of lacquer enhance the natural color. The bamboo frame and iron florettes show that basket was clearly made with care and designed for strength. A Chinese scholar probably used it to hold heavy books.
